✧ Adornment as Art: Jewelry and the Aesthetic of Wearability

“Jewelry does not decorate. It holds. It weighs. It waits on the skin until the body remembers it’s there.”

When I sculpt a ring, I do not think of trends or finishes. I think of the hand it will rest on — the heat of it, the tension in the knuckles, the quiet dignity of its gestures. The piece must live with the body, not on it.

It must belong — not in the sense of ownership, but in the deeper sense of returning. Returning to form. To earth. To origin.

The Skin as Gallery

The academic text “Adornment as Art: Jewelry and the Aesthetic of Wearability” explores what I have long believed: that jewelry is not secondary to sculpture. It is sculpture. Only softer. More intimate. More human.

The body is not a blank canvas. It is already full — of memory, tension, language. Jewelry must respect that. It must respond to the body’s movement, to its vulnerability.

In my practice, there are no excesses. No ornamental flourishes. Each curve, each negative space is deliberate. What touches the skin must carry meaning — and carry it lightly.

Sculpture That Breathes

The pieces in Concepts by Nada Raad are not created to impress. They are created to reside — like a memory tucked behind the collarbone.
A pendant is not just a shape — it is a pause. A ring is not a circle — it is a question left unanswered.

To wear one of my pieces is to carry a silence with you. A silence made visible.

Between Body and Object

Adornment is not about shining. It is about revealing. And sometimes, what it reveals is absence, longing, or a lineage of touch passed down from mothers to daughters.
In Lebanon, this is not metaphor — this is daily life. The jewelry we inherit holds our history. It touches skin like it touched theirs.

So I make with that in mind. With restraint. With reverence.

✧ From My Hands to Yours

Every object I craft is sculpted to rest — not to shout. My jewelry does not compete with the body. It completes it.
